While GDI's military doctrine of heavy firepower and superior armor was proven to be very effective against Nod's ill-equipped troops in the past, the sluggishness and long response time of GDI's heavy units was quickly exploited by the new generation of Nod commanders taking the place of the now exiled warlords of the first Tiberium War. In response, GDI R&D was tasked with creating a new combat unit focused on high mobility that could be fielded quickly but didn't require the advanced infrastructure necessary for the aircrafts that filled this role earlier.
The result of this research is the Atlas II Combat Rig. While the use of modern composite materials provides both exceptional resistance and mobility, the true gem of this gear is the Ikarus-7 short distance mobility booster - best described as a JumpJet-Pack. Combining the ORCA high power turbine technology with a system of several propulsion boosters for the initial lift-off, the Ikarus-7 allows for short, controlled "jumps" of several hundred meters, giving soldiers the ability to easily cross natural barriers or bypass the enemy front line.
While regular JumpJet Troopers are usually equipped with the new GD8 pulse rifle, battle reports indicate that the GHOST commando squad has recently started using personally modified Atlas II suits in combination with a variety of weapons for field tests - on Nod live targets.
OH now thats what i call a COOL UNIT =] great work m8
