Block Story

Game review

This game really needs a lot of development still.

As a block world sandbox, it's functional, but really not as good as minecraft. It's not bad by any means; you can achieve similar results in world building minus the redstone.
However the world makeup is a complete mess. The tiny random biomes create a really disjointed geography.
The topography also feels really off, the whole world seems to be built on the side of a steep hill. After a dozen new worlds I have yet to encounter anything resembling a plain other than the sea.
Since the world is effectively infinite in all directions there aren’t really any mountains or hills, slopes seem to just keep going up forever. That and the hundreds of tiny floating islands everywhere give the sky an unpleasant and alien appearance. Infinite verticality is cool enough, but adding some cloud layers to break up the los when it comes to the sky would be welcome as when you look up you inevitabley just see some dirt fading off into the draw distance.
These factors make navigation really difficult, everything looks so chaotic and similar, no large biomes, mountains or distinct land marks you can use for orientation.
The brightly glowing ores create a garish lighting aesthetic as if the whole world was in some 70s disco. The ore glow I think would actually be welcome if it was seriously toned down in intensity, but currently a single block of ore floods a large area with brightly coloured light.

Now as for the RPG aspect which is supposed to be the main feature that differentiates this title from Minecraft... well it's just not there yet. There are a few fetch/kill x number of blocks/mobs type quests I could find, but these feel more like placeholders, boring and little reason to do them.
This definitely not an rpg yet.
