There is but unfortunately I'm not exactly sure how myself. The installer is windows only. Someone did a linux distro as well but as far as OSX the only solution I know is to install to a windows machine, copy over, and download or compile the OSX builds of FS2_Open.
Since most of the development is now done by the public it's hard to post updates. There are some models and campaigns being worked on along with the standard bug fixing. Best thing to do is follow on the HLP forum.
You forgot the most important one. BEER!!!!!!!
Unfortunately that is specific to the engine. New code will be hitting soon that allows for additional controls. This should allow future updates for things like multiple joysticks. Now if that will happen before we release is anyone's guess. So I guess the point is progress in the code is being made as well.
When it's done is about the only answer we can give. While making good progress there is still quite a bit to do.
OK that countdown hit 0 but I see no news. What the heck was it for?
Yes many things would be nice. There are 2 major engine limits this would break. First is rotating subobjects. Second is total number of subsystems. Yes some of these could be increased but even with the most modern of systems doing so would make your system crawl. Every one of those turrets would have to think for itself. Imagine a game where one ship was the equivalent of over 300 enemies thinking and moving in each frame. That's what you would be talking about.
I think we've reclassified that ship as a WIP so probably not at this time. While it's a great model it needs a bit of tweaking to get it up to our standards. Not 100% on this as I just make them work not look pretty.
Actually we have several coders on staff that add the functionality that we need that wasn't already in the engine to it. So yes code is involved. There are also a lot of other aspects. Sounds, video, interface (over 1100 pieces itself), music, effects, animations, and backgrounds just to name a few.
If you mean in the trailer then you need too look again. 12 seconds in you are in the chase cam of a Mk2. Then at about 30 seconds your watching a MK7.
Pictures don't do them justice.
Quite a bit of recent progress. Should be some more eye candy coming soon.
No planets at least not in the first few releases. We hope to get that in at some point though.
What graphic? Do you mean the name on the cargo containers? If so then it's not strange it's normal to have the company name on shipping containers.
We will probably never do that. That doesn't prevent other people from making mods where you can. The FS2_Open engine was never really designed for that. There have been some people working on flyable caps for FS2 so it may be possible at some point. Probably require a lot of work and wouldn't be much fun though.
DirectX is no longer supported by the FS2_Open engine. You have to have OpenGL.
Processor yes, video card maybe. It depends on if it supports OpenGL and what version. If you have OpenGL 1.4 or better there is a chance 2.0 or better and it it almost certainly will.
Wide screen is mostly supported. There are still a few minor issues with it but nothing to keep you from using it. I use both 1024x768 and 1360x768 without even noticing. Support for 720p resolution was just added to the code as well so you can use hires graphics below x768. Can't remember the specific resolutions it supports off the top of my head.
The installer installs the base game. The DVD installs the base game + campaigns + extras. So if you use the installer you will need to download other stuff separately.
Yes that is currently the best solution.
At some point we hope to do so. Just haven't had the time recently so it's kind of been on the low priority list. So basically I wouldn't wait for the new DVD to get these.
The DVD's contain the installer so you need one or the other not both. If you want the extra content and campaigns get the DVD otherwise you will need to download the campaigns separately.

The instructions are the same. I'm guessing it has to do with the ports on the host not being forwarded correctly. Also you should be using the 3.6.10 Inferno build that is in Zathras.
Yes now that FS2_Open 3.6.10 is out and Zathras is released we can begin assembling a DVD 2.0.
Nope those pics were from the EMW Demo so that skybox is in 3.4b.
Multiplayer is kind of still in the development stage and is split between versions that can't see each other. There are scheduled games on Thursdays. Hard-light.net
Pretty sure the Earth one is a skybox.
If you want to use if for something outside of TBP you will need to track down the person that originally made it and get their permission. And before you ask no I don't have a clue who made that one.
It's a library for audio playback. Troubleshooting can be found here: Hard-light.net
If none of that helps post in the forum.
