just seen a youtube video of someone renaming files from CTR file to BIG files, i remember years ago i had to do this, would this be the issue?, i dont know what files to change to BIG if that is teh issue as the names of the files are different to that on the youtube video (was for contra 009 Beta)

I HAVE DONE IT, installed to the wrong folder, i had 2 folders names command and conquer the first decade, i put it in the 1st folder, it needed to be in 2nd
D:\Games\Command And Conqure The Ultimate Collection\Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour\Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour
this files had data, core and mss folders (for those who also have trouble)

just downloaded it and installed it to D:\Games\Command And Conqure The Ultimate Collection\Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour
this is where installed all the games from the ultimate collection to, i couldnt use default c: drive as my compute has split the storage so only small space on c: drive :(.

how do i patch it to v.1.04? i never had to do this on my old copy (the first decade, but disk is screwed on that lol). (EDIT, i have just looked in options after a google search and it says zero hour is on version 1.04)

also i am glad to see people are still interested in c&c and moding it, makes it worth me still wanting to play it :)

not played command and conquer in about 3 years, is this the download for contra? or just a patch? if so does anyone have a link to download the latest contra? also how do i install mods again? its been a long time lol. i installed the game to D: drive (under games then command and conquer, these are folders i made), i download the ultimate collection from CDKeys.com was only £5, so i couldnt say no lol (no idea if that means anything lol)

has the bug been fixed where it crashes on the video loading screen of Challenging the nuke general?.
not played command and conquer for a long time so not checked for updates etc.

was maps included in this mod?
if so Europe Raptor(4) map might have a bug?, i play with all 4 players (me and 3 insane random comp), when i click play game shuts off saying encountered serious error. (map has a big ? on it as well). will comment if i encounter any more bugs :).

i have just reinstalled this mod (i must have removed it last time), will i be able to play without this bug now or do i have to wait for a update?.

also as before i keep getting encountered serious error messages after 5-10 mins of game play as before i had to save the game before it crashed to stop getting error messages. seems to happen when doing allot of things at once (example, building several stuff, or using a super weapon, so maybe my computer??), i have over 100GB spare space on my disk drive so i dont think it is lack of space, i also got no error messages while installing mod.

is the bug fixed yet against china nuke general? where at the start of the mission it just keeps playing the video of the nuke cannon tanks firing? it is/was the only thing annoying me at the moment as skirmish matches was getting a little boring lol.

if there is an update how do i download it? or is it automatically downloaded as i start the game?

i got the same messages (5 times in a row), messages was happening every 5 mins or so, on the 6th attempt i decided to save the game about 3 mins in, so if it did crash, i could load it back up to see if that fixed it. however the game did NOT crash after saving :/. no idea if saving the game so early on solved it or if it solved itself. but might be worth saving now and then like i did for a quick fix?.

GOT IT WORKING (but getting loads of error messages while playing) encountered serious error Bla bla bla. this happened 5 times in a row, i then decided to save it after 5 mins assuming it would crash again, but after saving it (no loading it), it did not crash lol.

anyway i got it working by deleting EVERYTHING from the zerohour folder (including normal zero hour files), then when to add/remove programs and click to repair the game (reinstall missing files), then extracted the contra files to zero hour folder, then changed the file names as you stated above and bobs your uncle, it worked. HOWEVER i am still encountering same bug as on 008 FINAL, 1st mission playing as flame general is against Nuke general, the small clip of teh nuke cannons blowing up the tanks at the start does not end, the nuke cannons just constantly fire and the game will not start. (i had this problem playing as Infantry general against nuke general as well).. is this a bug on the contra or a bug on my side??

if you had/have any other contra in your zero hour folder, just remove ALL them, then install this 1. me i removed EVERYTHING from teh folder, then went to ADD/REMOVE programs and repaired it(reinstalled the missing files), then install this contra, (i think you need to EXTRACT the files to the zero hour folder and not copy+paste), but then you change the file names (as stated below) (copy and pasted messaged from ThePredatorBG)

Contra 009 Beta is a standalone version. You do not need 008 to play it. I suggest doing the manual installation.

1. Put all files from Contra009Beta into your Zero Hour folder.
2. Rename !Contra009Beta.ctr to !Contra009Beta.big.
3. Rename !Contra009BetaEN.ctr to !Contra009BetaEN.big OR rename !Contra009BetaRU.ctr to !Contra009BetaRU.big if you want Russian language.
4. Rename !Contra009BetaVOrig.ctr to !Contra009BetaVOrig.big OR rename !Contra009BetaVLoc.ctr to !Contra009BetaVLoc.big if you want English unit voices.
5. Rename !Contra009BetaMNew.ctr to !Contra009BetaMNew.big OR rename !Contra009BetaMStandard.ctr to !Contra009BetaMStandard.big if you want vanilla soundtracks.
6. Rename Scripts folder to Scripts1 (which is located inside Data folder).
7. Start the game from generals.exe (NOT Contra Launcher.exe)!

could you tell me how to complacently UNINSTALL both 009 and 008 contra? i could then re try from fresh files? (i am classed as a noob on doing things like this, sorry lol)

i did this as well. i used winrar to extract ALL files to they zero hour folder C:\Program Files (x86)\EA Games\Command & Conquer The First Decade\Command & Conquer(tm) Generals Zero Hour. then i renamed the files as stated. i also renamed teh scrips folder to scripts1 in teh data folder. i then went back to zero hour folder and clicked on the Generals launcher (could not find Generals.exe mine just said Generals with the zero hour logo. this launched the game as the contra008 FINAL (although the 8 does look like a 9 lol, but it always has done)

My last problem was i was copy and pasting teh files instead of EXTRACTING them, then another problem was, not running in admin mode.
i did extract the 009 files to the zero hour folder (as stated above), it was also run in admin mode. i then saw another comment about having to edit some files to have .Big on teh end instead of ctl (or something), changed these and still did not work.. any ideas? (i did run from generals.exe BUT IT JUST LOADED UP THE 008 final VERSION :/.

hi, i still have the 008 final (contra), do i need to uninstall that 1 to install this 1? also will the bugs be fixed from 008 on this? (my bugs was playing AGAINST nuke general), the mini video at beginning blowing up tanks just plays constantly. will this be fixed here?

BUG??? on challenge mode (hard), i choose flame general, 1st mission agaist nuke general, but when it plays the little video of the tanks getting blow up by nuke cannons, it crashes, it destroys the tanks after about 4 shots and it just keeps firing??? (same when playing as infantry general, when you reach nuke general it will not go past the nuke cannons blowing up the tanks.

any idea what i could do??

i think this has been mentioned in previous comments. i dont have the time yet, but maybe you could scroll back and look through the comments??. if not try other suggestions people have said in comments. only mistake i made when installing it was i didnt extract teh files to the correct folder, i extracted to another folder and copy+pasted to correct folder, this was wrong, i had to actually Extract to the correct folder in the first place.

sorry to be posting again, i have encountered another problem.

i am playing teh challenge mode as china infantry, i have just started the game against Nuke general, on teh cut scene here the nuke cannons blow up the tanks, it does not do anything from there, they fire, blow up the middle tanks and the 2 at the ends live, and then the nuke cannons constantly just keep firing, when the 2 tanks at the end get blown up (after about 5 shots), they continue to keep firing.

i left it for like 5-10 mins and it was still firing.

i restarted the mission, i also clicked exit game them clicked play again, none of this worked.
i did get a error message just as the mission started and game closed (encountered a serious error), no idea if this would have anything to do with it, i only got the message once (1st time round).

i am on Windows 7

yeah but they are not named ISIS and are MUCH easier to beat than ISIS lol.

I ended up restarting the mission, it didnt crash then, but it did on the last mission against robot's general, just as i was about to win lol, but luckily i saved it 5 mins before i could have beat him, so reloaded and won lol.

that's a shame, looks like a good defensive turret to have lol

i had saved it, i was about 40 mins in to the game, i then load the game up, play about 10-20 mins and whole thing closes with error message. i have no attempted to restart mission as it was hard to get my defenses up fast enough lol. i have beat this general with another general.

KEEPS CRASHING (encountering error) when i am playing against laser general, i am air force general. about 1 hour in to the mission it encounters an error each and every time.

Why does is it that on Challenge mod fighting against Superweapons general (usa) she has a particle cannon turret that fires at both air and ground, yet when you play as the superweapons general you do not have the ion turret?? is this a bug or just a thing to make the mission a little harder???

i dont know for sure, but are you got the 1.04 patch thing?? if not this might be the problem, apparently The first decade(i have that) comes with patch 1.04, never heard of Ultimate collection though. are you EXTRACTING the files in to (Windows 7) C:/Program Files(84X)/EA Games/Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour Folder?? i noticed that if you Copy and paste the files in to the folder it does not work, i had to use Winrar, then extract then select the path above

so not a bug? :( thats a shame ;(, but it's still pretty good but very hard lol. took me 3 hours to do the 1st missions with me as air force general lol. will just need more and more practice i guess :).
