I myself, am a web directories developer and as such have very little experience with game dev. However, it's something I'd love to get into and as it is an interest of mine pursued actively through learning by looking. Especially by seeing how various modders have worked their magic, I find myself asking...could I do this as a hobby and make money from it?

From having read many of the forums, I know that the majority of the modders out there make nothing off their tireless efforts. But, the question remains, can reward be achieved through turning good games into great ones?

So in summery: For those of you who enjoy the art of modding and have managed to fill a niche where you've been able to keep it up as a hobby and somehow make some cash out of it, please enlighten the rest of us who would like to nurture the art of making good games great by making a little extra on the side which could inspire the whole learning process and keep us dedicated.
