It absolutely is a marketing strategy. Assuming you're planning on selling the full version, that is. This is what you'd call a "teaser". I don't have a problem with that, I might end up buying, but if your whole team is pouncing on people's simple observations and frustration with not being able to play the game, it might be better to choose a different approach.
