A Clash of Kings (Game of Thrones)

Mod review

This mod has some cool features such as new quests and unique troops. There are some really nice scenes which add to the GoT feel, along with some awesome textures for GoT style armour/weapons. However there are a few major problems.

-The biggest one for me is bandit parties. The map is huge yet virtually empty apart from a few areas where there are concentrated amounts of bandits, for instance just south of Kings Landing there are loads of Raiders. This means that travelling around the map is really boring, there are a couple unique parties such as Wildlings up north, Crannogmen, escaped slaves and mountain clansmen but they are all relatively small (15-25 men each) and all incredibly weak. Once you get a couple decent cavalry units they are no challenge.

-Secondly apart from the few very nice GoT specific items, there is not much equipment variety at all. Want a sword? You can have greatsword, arming sword and longsword(longsword is two-handed for some reason as well?). It's the same for armour, mainly all similar, bland and boring.

-Thirdly troop wages are through the roof, one hedge knight (a decent mercenary cavalry unit) is something like 250 gold a week. This means having a large force with high tier units is much more difficult (yes it adds challenge, but not fun challenge).

-Fourthly your character is extremely weak, not only stat wise but equipment wise as well. The starting stats are oddly low and you don't start with a horse which is really annoying, you need 12 strength to wield any weapon that actually does damage which means you have to start with the other stats really low. Also armour has received massive nerfs. I understand Cozur did this to make the player less of a beastly tank but it's boring, being a killing machine is fun, having cool and amazing armour is fun, the best armour having only around 45 protection is not fun.

-Fifthly all the troop trees are pretty much the same. I guess the books and TV show don't show much difference between the 7 kingdoms troops but a bit of imagination wouldn't hurt.

Overall I give this mod a 6/10 because while it has good moments and a nice GoT feel, it often feels empty and boring. Features that I understand have been added to make the game more challenging have added difficulty in I way that I feel is just boring and pointless.
