Games have always been my main interest. Mostly it's been all about playing games, but recently I've started to take interest in how to design games as well. The most important thing in a game? Definitely the story. A well written game can be almost like reading a good book, only that you are even more emerged into the environment when moving around in a game. I'm the kind of person that can be seen reading all the books in ES -Oblivion. Second most important thing would be the fun factor. Not all games are fit to have a story but can still be really good games none the less. It is important to explore both of those aspects when creating games to see what exactly fits your game idea. Games I recommend which have great story: Myst Series, Sanitarium, Pretty much any Squaresoft rpg, Any of the Lucas arts adventure games. Games I recommend with great fun factor: Serious Sam Series, MDK2, Earthworm Jim, Most of the Mario games, Marble Blast Gold

Correct, 1.10b is considered the final release for this game since none of use have the time to do any more work on this game. We have thought of releasing the code as open source and let others pick up the ball but we never got around to it.

Hey, would be fun if you get something going. I'll try to be available for this event. Depending on the geographical location of the attending users, you might want to host a server at a better spot than the 3 that are hosted by us (currently stationed in Sweden). The Swedish servers have temporarily been re-located during the summer so they might give abit higher latency than usual. It doesn't have to be a dedicated, just for someone with a decent upload bandwidth to create a game just as you're about to play. For some more info on how to create a server and some basic server console commands, see: Forum.celestialimpact.com

Oh, and make sure you get the 1.1 or 1.1b version, there are still several connection attempts each day made by people running the old non-supported 1.0 version.

Had some trouble with the GE:S mod. It kept reading a memory address it shouldn't have and therefore crashed every time I tried to start it. I'll have to see if I can make it work for the next event.

I missed the GoldenEye: Source event last time, so I'm definitely looking forward to this session. I have yet to try it :)

Unfortunately no. Despite there being an addbot command, all that does is creating a static entity used for animation testing. We had had considered adding bots but there was not enough time to create something complex enough that would be able to react properly to the dynamic changes in the environment.

bah, stupid comment reply won't place this at the right spot.

@DOLBYdigital:
Yeah we are generally pretty low on exposure, mostly because we don't have the time to seek it so we are depending on word-by-mouth spreading.

They were actually talking about doing some kind of weekly play session for these kind of games in the January modcast. Hopefully something will be set in motion.

We get that alot, but this is not a modified Q3 engine. We may have been inspired by some parts of the Q3 engine, but everything is made from scratch.

Yes the community is abit small. Most of the times, noone starts playing because noone else is on. Which turns into a vicious circle where the servers are empty quite often. Invite some friends to play at the same time as you and you'll surely be joined by others not soon after.

I also wrote down some bugs I stumbled upon. In fortress of traps, the parallaxed background shakes back and forth when you move (the one in screen 2 and forward). This happened at some other fort as well. In the same stage, if you jump through the second screen transition (the one taking you to the autoscroll area) you'll be stuck in the wall for the next screen. Enemy hitboxes seems to be way too large, or conversely the player hitbox is too large. Lots of times you know for sure that a certain cannonball is missing you but you still get hit. Touching solid blocks with your head should not bounce you back as much as when touching powerups, notes, breakable bricks etc. This is most annoying when swimming in narrow areas and the ceiling is instantly throwing you straight down the pit as soon as you touch it. If you are climbing a MM ladder and you jump so that you would land exactly on the edge of the top of the ladder, you'll be teleported up above the top of the screen. The lakitu in birabuto bash can not be stomped at all regardless of entry angle (using mario atleast). I haven't found another lakitu to compare with yet. There's one return trigger in dry bones fort that covers both the wrong upper path and half the correct lower path thus transporting you back if you happen to jump while in the correct lower path. Pirahna plants normally have a minimum angle of fire but that doesn't seem to exist in this game.

This game is very interesting and I mean that in a positive way. Having all the different characters with their different moveset and powerups opens up for alot of variation in level design and in ways to overcome obstacles. "You have to find a way to find a way to damage tuthankhamon", well luckily I played that stage as arthur so I just threw golden axes at him til he dropped. The next time I go there, with a different char perhaps, I'll be facing a completely different threat. I'm only up to world 4 so far (yes I know you can go anywhere but I like to play most of the stages in each world before moving on as later will be intended). The megaman world was really fun and not quite as frustrating as some of the other ones. It was interesting seeing how you implemented alternate ways of beating the robot masters in case you lost the megaman powerup. I have to say that skull man is by far more difficult than the others when trying to beat him without the buster. You might want to tweak him abit to keep him on the same level as the others, or make him less likely to appear for the copying mini-boss.

Most people seem to do that in the beginning, but once they learn how to take full advantage of the dirtgun during combat they enjoy it alot more.

I think you'd more enjoy playing CC with a couple of players on each team than just a plain deathmatch. In CC your actions have greater strategic impact and the dirtgun can create quite some funny situations.

I would more say that it is the look of someone who is beeing confident of easily winning the battle while at the same time enjoying what he is doing. The eyes convey a feeling of thirst for more power. The reason it might look abit retarded would be that the eye to the right should have had it's pupil slightly lower to be in sync with the left eye. I'd say that eyes are the hardest part to make when drawing a picture.

Glad that you liked the game.

I'm not sure if you, with Mario galaxy gravity, are referring to beeing able to move between several spherical asteroids or beeing able to walk on walls as if they were ground (or both). So here's an answer to both.

Having several asteroids to move between could be pretty cool but will require a major rewrite of the engine, something I don't see happening in the near future.

The gravity style based on surface normals is something we actually thought of implementing for awhile, however lots of problems arise with the terrain beeing deformable. Since CI is a first person shooter transitioning between gravity fields will be pretty confusing for the players. Due to the geometry constantly changing the transitions would happen often. Even if we did something similar to Prey the transitions would be very disorienting.
With that said, we might test it anyways if we have some time to spare.

We might put in an option to switch to a minimalistic hud for players feeling it is too much in the way.

The curse of most online games. Activity is created by people playing the game, but people are not playing since there is little to no activity.

Gather up some friends to play on a server and you'll make other people join in for sure.

Make sure the game.pack file is in the same directory as the ci.exe and make sure you have write rights to that directory.

If the problem persists, please try to give a more precise error description and let us know if you spoted any more errors printed out in the console

Whoops, yeah you're right.
It's not totally safe for all graphics card to turn that off without having errors in the rendering. Hopefully we will be fixing that while we're looking over the bloom as a whole.

Thanks for all the positive comments folks. We're planning on posting updates more regularly now to give you all a better insight on how we're progressing.

The bloom has not been fully tweaked yet. Some people seem to think it's too much while others really like it. We are working on finding a balance where both sides are somewhat satisfied.

There is actually a way to turn it off completely. Just set r_bloom to 0 in the console.
