It is free to play, but very heavily pay-to-win. I would recommend avoiding this game when there are so many more well-balanced card games out there.

This game is multiplayer only and there is no multiplayer to be had. Paradox's own community manager has said "We are discussing how this game will work in the future. We apologize for any negative experiences. " So even the publisher knows that the game isn't playable. And yet they push it here.

I see... Is there some more clear way to illustrate that colonies simply provide production and cannot provide income?

Bug with manufacturing plants. It says that they produce money (IE cost 39 and produce 48), except that they don't produce any money at all. I bankrupted myself thinking I was producing money by building manufacturing plants everywhere.
