Began mapping for Portal 2 back in 2021. Today, I map both for P2 and P1 - in P2, I mainly map overgrown and offices (and overgrown offices), and in P1, I give my own touch to the classic test chamber style, inspired by the great mod Portal Pro by mevious. My favorite games are the Half-Life series.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but how do you launch smg grenades? They appear in the OICW ammo counter, but right clicking uses the scope

I gave me rockets with the console, continued playing, and I just finished it now.

This mod is AMAZING! It has that classic Half-Life feel and everything is just so much fun about the gameplay, and the level design is nice. I like how it ties logically with the HL storyline and I love how the references to other HL games aren't just dumb fanservice added for no reason, but they're actually implemented well. (I loved the detail of the green light flash of Barney teleporting in the storage room when you watch Gordon being dragged away).

All in all, I'm HYPED to see where you take this in future chapters, to see how you tie it with the events of Surface Tension and, now that we're reaching this point of the timeline, maybe we'll get a peek at Adrian's adventure in Opposing Force? ;)

Real good, and excited for more. Keep going, friend! :)

I don't have enough rockets to take down the helicopter. Any advice?

Was Residual Life that one mod that started as a regular Half-Life experience, but then the story became super confusing and the game starting getting ultra hard after Xen?

Anyway, how much mapping experience do you have?

Hands down one of the best (if not THE best) HL1 mod I've ever played. Level design is great; the new weapons are balanced and satisfying to use; I loved how you could blow enemies' heads with the sufficient firepower. I also really liked all the accurate guns (such as the SPAS-12 having auto mode instead of double fire). Xen was an awesome experience - beautiful reinterpretation of it. It's like a mix of the barren wasteland Xen from the original with a pinch of the outer space beauty of Black Mesa (remake).

Overall, a solid 10/10. I don't think I have any complaints at all.

The first half is a pretty damn solid HL mod! Pretty fun gameplay and stuff.

However, for God's sake, chill with the Black Ops at the end. At that point every room is filled to the brim with black ops... and then there's the snipers that either isntakill you or leave you at low HP and they are super accurate.

Sorry if I just don't understand a "classic" but I don't get what's the appeal of this mod. I suppose the level design, it looks cool, but the gameplay hasn't been fun at all so far - really confusing goals and map layout and so far it just keeps throwing more enemies at my face without any sort of direction.

Also, for God's sake, how was I ever supposed to know that the metal crates that aren't breakable in base HL and in ANY OTHER MOD are breakable here?

Now, I know this mod is very old and I want to make clear that none of the issues I'm going to list are anything I expect the dev to fix, they are moreso just warnings to any new player that might want to try it out.

So, Azure Sheep, one of the most famous HL1 mods, I guess it was the best of the best at the time, but it definitely hasn't aged well.

My first complaint has to do with the level design. Most of the mod follows a linear path of finding a corridor with two paths, both paths lead towards a completely empty winding corridor that goes back and forth, one of them ends at the way to proceed and other doesn't. Then it has a short different part, or maybe an area seen in HL1, then it repeats with more featureless long corridors. On the topic of areas seen in other games, they are just thrown in without any care or without much sense for them. There's way too many references, really.

Next, gameplay. For HL1 standards it was *fine*, but my main issue is... why is the weapon switch so slow? I get they wanted to make it realistic but holy ****, is it annoying to have to wait 4 seconds to switch from pistol to shotgun. Also, not sure if this is an issue with the mod direction or me, but I couldn't find a crowbar, meaning I had to break every crate with bullets.

Next is the storytelling. I guess it doesn't have to be like the original, but the amount of long cutscenes and story/dialogue told through plain text in the screen really feels like a downgrade in storytelling from the OG Half-Life's design philosophy. That, mixed in with the rather bad English just makes it sound funny, confusing even.

Also, the story. Everything felt kinda like the same story until the part where you're captured in a tube, watched over by the G-Man and two Black Ops. The issue here isn't that they made their own story, that's fine, the issue is that it's very confusing. Is the G-Man working with the military? Is the scientist in the control room being forced to work for them? Why do the grunts kill you if the G-Man is apparently interested in keeping me alive? Also the fact that the whole story was driven by "rescue Kate", but after hours of running through empty corridors killing occasional enemies, it felt more like you just had to escape, not to mention how much of a chore it became.

Admittedly I haven't finished this mod, I ragequit at the part where you're supposed to run away from a bunch of vortigaunts and protect Kate, which is nearly impossible because I have no weapons and these guys outright SNIPE you with their beams.

Again, I don't expect the dev to go back to fix any of this, they are probably better at this now. I will continue playing Point of View which, despite apparently sharing some of the issues of Azure Sheep, so far it looks much more promising.

Now, you probably WILL have some fun if you play this mod. But at least for me, it became boring and cumbersome after a short while. If you're looking for an actual good and interesting mod, my recommendiation is Echoes, which is a huge upgrade in gameplay, mapping, and storytelling, even surpassing the original HL in some places. That said, I still want to thank the dev for not giving up and actually finishing something - despite its flaws, it's still a big mod, and it must have taken some effort.
