Description

These are images of my first map in Unity, titled Oasis.
This was made back in 2010, as a school assignment.

My Role: Level Designer; 3d modeller

-Terrain and texturing by me
-Nature models (logs, boulders, etc.) by me
-Buildings/Road Bridge modelled by Derik
-Other modells by Steven and Jeremy

My goal for the map was to create a scene with as little texture tiling as possible, because I wanted the design to resemble a beautifull scenery like a painting. That's why, instead of tiling the textures endlessly to make it look "hd," I decided instead to create something that would look more reall in a different sense... I wanted to create something that looked natural.

At that time I learned about idSoftware's Rage, and idTech5 in development. It seems I'm not the only one who thinks tile repetition is lame, and not HD. Rage is a beautifull work of art, and inspired me to use a wide range of textures in terrain, rather than tile a million times.

It is also from Rage that I decided to add a post-disaster and ruined type of feel to the mix of my desert oasis, and the idea that a world in ruins can infact, look beautifull.
