I wouldn't recommend doing that. It's not healthy

He said it will not be released within the next 2 weeks. The most optimistic date seems like Thanksgiving at the soonest, more realistically seems Christmas time.

Does this require a new game? Companions are not invincible for me :(

I'd love to know the answer to this as well. Everytime I travel to a major base (Yanov Station for example) there is always a firefight between a crap ton of humans and even more mutants.
