We're sorry, but no blog posts were found here. Boring yes, but as confucius always said - if you have nothing good to say, why say anything at all? Check back later, perhaps something exciting will pop-up and be worth blogging about, like season 3 of the teletubbies.
Speak your mind, rant about games, mods and the development scene, it's simple and who knows maybe someone will read it and agree. It will feel right!

OK, hopefully I can make a post without coming off harsh.
Yeah, I said earlier that when you compare it to the original, it looks great and a massive improvement. But if you take those shots on their merit (IOW, if these were shots from another mod aside from Black Mesa) I don't think people would be overly excited about them. Also, I'm pretty used to work of someone who I personally consider a master of lighting (http://www.moddb.com/mods/nightfall-initiation/images/map1-rebelcompounds-room#imagebox I personally consider this one of my favorite shots of all-time) so perhaps I'm a bit harder to impress than other people.
Yeah, it was the gameplay that made Half Life, so why remake the gameplay when this talent could be put into making something new and more inventive? Looking at the top 100 list for this year, over 1/3rd of them are remakes, sequels or things based on an existing IP. Is this what modding has become - a haven for people to just re-make old games rather than try something new? Isn't modding about taking a risk, doing something that a commercial company wouldn't do? What happened to the glory days of all the original Half Life mods, like Natural Selection and The Specialists and all those kind of mods? Its almost like mods are starting to get closer to commercial games in that people don't care for original ideas and gameplay, but rather the same 'safe' thing re-hashed again and again, and I think its pretty disappointing.
Yeah, but people still need to be able to take criticism. I totally understand, I've worked on a few mods in the past few years and sacrificed a whole lot for NightFall and really theres been alot of mods prove that great stuff can still be made. People don't like other people being negative - in fact, there were issues earlier on that partially ended up resulting in the resignation of one ModDB's top staff members - about people in the mod community not being able to take criticism. And I think its a sad state of affairs when someone can look at a shot, say 'I don't like that' and then have people vote down the comment, and cop abuse.
And while they aren't getting paid for it, being on whats one of the highest profile mods in history looks damn good on a resume, it would go a long way to getting a job in the industry (for anyone who is moving in that direction)
While its clearly popular I don't think Black Mesa is really what you'd call the cream of the crop in terms of how good a mod can be (but for popularity, definitely). There have been some other fantastic mods and many that I think are more visually impressive than Black Mesa The fact that its a remake means that its hardly revolutionary or trying something new (except for the fact that it is the largest mod ever taken on by a team). I think you can look at mods like Insurgency, Nuclear Dawn, Red Orchestra etc to see nice examples of the kind of things that can be achieved by modders. Mods like Drawn to be Alive, CS and Garrys Mod are great examples of the kind of innovation and originality that the mod community has been reknowned for, and I personally think that these are far better products than a remake.
