This is a classic background that has lots of variations all over the internet. I decided to make my own :)

it needs...something....depth. background needs work, a feeling of an open space needs to be created...idk...play with your lighting here to make it look right.
Brighter or darker? Because I actually didn't want to go to bright with the background :\
well it doesn't need to be either actually...just light angles to make it seem like an open space in the background. If it is a darker space, fine.
So use one color for the background and play with lighting....I don't know how artists create depth. but I'm guessing it has to do with light
