It is a surprising improvement over the OpenGL one.
Well, the OpenGL one just subdivides the water faces, and waves them. It looks kinda meh, since the water is just gonna look like blue sand.
Meanwhile, the software one modifies the texture in real-time, in code. So it produces this kind of water ripple and flow effect.
