A World of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones)

Mod review

A great mod that is still being built and refined. Ignore the petulant crybaby 1-star reviews (most are 3 years old at this point). If you enjoy the GoT series, you will find something to enjoy here. It has a lot of features that ACOK does not, and the author is far more reasonable and open to suggestion (i.e. he actually fixes bugs and broken systems/features, something Cozur refuses to do out of some weird sense of stubborn pride).

There is a great deal of content here, from expansive armor and weapon selections (all of which look great), to areas unavailable in other GoT mods/maps (you can go north of the wall!), to new quests and invasions that put you into the world of Westeros. Unlike other GoT mods, this mod also features things like decapitation, and the ability to kill enemy lords. Frankly, I'm sick of defeating the same lords 50+ times only to have them run home and try again (in Native and basically every other mod ever). This is Game of Thrones. Anyone can die. Now that's actually possible! No matter what faction you support, you can finally get your revenge against characters you've hated for years.

The beginning of the game is very difficult, especially in terms of combat. You'll find yourself getting one-shotted frequently if you don't quickly get some better equipment (or at least recruit some fighters so you can stand back and command them). But the opening quest is excellent, and far more immersive and engaging that the vanilla opening sequence that is still in use by many mods. And once you get into the game, with a decent set of leathers and a reasonable weapon, you can begin making your own mark on the world of Westeros.

Edit: There is a lot of outcry over the removal of the cheat menu. Particularly the removal of the Item Find cheat. Some cheats have been put back into the game, but you will never be able to find items again without editing the menu.txt at your own risk. In a game with such a broken merchant/vendor system, some players find the removal of the Find Item feature to be game-breaking. Some features have been added to aid to vanilla game's problematic item system, such as the faction blacksmiths, and the item upgrade system (available through any blacksmith or armorer). The mod is still very playable, and the removal of cheats is supposed to make it more stable. But if you can't deal with not having access to all items, there are still ways to re-enable it if you're willing to do some tinkering or download some else's menu.txt file.
