Plus the death star is a flawed weapon as it lacks effective defensive weaponry against large fleets. Relying on its main gun, even an emperor class battleship would be able to keep out of its firing arc. Due to its massive size it could be targeted by cyclonic torpedoes or a large scale boarding by imperial guard and space marines. It would never be able to gain the range necessary to bring its main gun into an effective firing position to keep an imperial fleet at bay.
Hell, I'm pretty sure the Death Star is big enough for a direct hit with a Nova Cannon. Have fun sitting there halfway across the system while your doom approaches in cannon form, Death Star!
The star destroyer is smaller than most imperial cruisers. The super destroyers are about 4km long, though I heard somewhere, that the biggest battleships in 40k can be 8km long.
Only ship in star wars that is bigger than the imperial ships of 40k is the executor super destroyer, used by Darth Vader as a flagship. It is about 19km long.
Regardless, the imperium of man has the most powerful navy of 'em all.
The funny thing is, you gotta wonder, what is the largest canocliy accepted ship in existance? DO Halo rings count? Cause they can technicly move, although poor Halo gets curbstomped by 40k and Star wars, much as I like the games, and pathetcily, the modern day US army or Russians could give the Coveanet a badass fight on the ground, but no, their cowards, and will glass us like pussies!
I tell you a secret, we got more of these 5km ships and we got a lot bigger guns oh and we dont fear the atomic weapons capable of burning down atmosphere of whole planet
*trollface* Problem fanboys?
Oh yeah? DEATH STAR!!!
(rofl)
Ramillies Class Starfort, and Blackstone Fortresses.
Check and mate.

There is no 'overkill.' There is only 'open fire' and 'time to reload.
However yours is acceptable aswell
Given the size and weapons of the Retribution Class Battleship, I thought 'more dakka' would be appropriate.
True

Yeah, and a Battle Barge is slightly larger than some of the larger Imperial Cruisers.
Actually The executor class star dreadnought is 17m KM long
How about the 20km long ships in EVE? trololol
no, 40k is my favorite
Eve ships best ships. Too bad none of them have the flair of 40k ships.
You, guys, forget about Super Star Destrouers.
And you forgot about Battle Barges, Ramillies Class Starfort, and Blackstone Fortresses.
Fire power, fire power, and fire power.
sometimes i wonder...
wouldnt it be easier to strap a lot of guns and engines to a planet thant building a ship the size of one?
They do that as well, with Adeptus Astartes Home Worlds, Forge Worlds and Armoury Worlds.
jeez, what next, build a ship around a star?
That's actually been done in the manga/comic !blame :P Its a ship like mega structure built around a sun and about the size of a solar system xD
An example of it "creepy as hell I say it has a very eerie vibe to it"
BLAME! - Log:01 Megastructure - sub esp
you have to keep in mind that these things can have space marines on them, which are basically lite versions of star destroyers.
"Size, matters not"
Thats what she said...
That's what he said! tssss
That is where the Inquisition and the Grey Knights come in.

As much as I like the Empire's ships and stuff, they really don't hold a feather to anything in WH40k.
Except maybe the Death Star, but that's a space station and not a ship
So, evidently the Executor is 19 KM, so 19,000 Meters, screw you Imperium XD
Eclipse SSD is 17.5 KM, the New Republic Viscount-class in 17 km... so yeah, 5 km is nothing...
I tell you a secret, we got more of these 5km ships and we got a lot bigger guns oh and we dont fear the atomic weapons capable of burning down atmosphere of whole planet
o.o found another link that says the retribution class is 15kms....
