If not for the IG to tank up most of the fighting, Astartes would find them selfs outmatched and unable to hold most of the Imperial space, because 2 space marines per a planet doesn't really seem like a very reasonable defense.
+1 true, but it's the Space marines who started it all. if not for them i doubt the Imeprium would have ever formed or gotten to the point it has now(obviously since then there wouldn't have been a Horus heresy.. but the whole conquering thing and bringing humanity together)
True too. Space Marines paved the way and laid the foundations for the Imperium. Nowadays Space Marines are pivotal in Imperiums survival, not only for their fierce fighting skills, but also as those who inspire hope into the most pessimistic of guardsmen. You could say that SP is the super glue and IG is the ducktape of the Emperor.
Don't forget that if not for these Astartes who keep "taking all your credit" your sorry *** probably wouldn't even be there.
