That's the age limit for implantation, so neophytes must be 10-14 years old for their first implants and they receive the final implant at 16-18 years of age.
the Black Templar Neophyte in Damnation Crusade, for example, was waaaay over 14 when he was recruited. but then again the fluff is more inconsistent than the Warp so uh...
They could... when it comes to that I remember Luthor from the Dark Angels. But he/adults could not be transformed into astartes. Think there was a max age for astartes creation.

So at the shortest it takes 187 years to become a full space marine?
Do you even math bro?
Jeez people, the table was vague about what that meant.
When it says "Age of implantation" right above it, it's not that vague.

what's the source for this?

Adults could be genetically modified during the Great Crusade, but I don't know if that's still a thing.

*U +14y? No astartes transformation for u!*
Yes, there is a max age. That's why recruit worlds are important.
iirc, it's because of the natural growth of the person, requiring to take along side the added modifications of Astartes creation.
wait thought the space marines were genetically modified?
This says implants, so are they genetically modified not to reject those implants or do they take drugs for that...I've read the food they eat help
Puts a new meaning in child soldier.
