GW pretty much skipped past writing much of significance about the Indomitus Crusade. All we know about it is Guilliman saves the galaxy "again". No major engagements written about so far, nothing.
I find it very tiring how their so-called "Black Library" is hell-bent on milking the living fluff out of the gone-&-forgotten Horus Heresy saga, instead of trying to fill in -within the current timeline- the more pressing gaps it has left or provide narrative that actually matters, 40k-wise.
On a side note, I am nowhere near as knowledgeable as my more seasoned 30k fellows, & yet even I have gotten tired of how GW's authors can't seem to agree on their collective lore.
I yawn at the mere sight of any Ultramarine line art, because I have long since gotten over the fact that GW are closet ethnocentric fools who project their own ego into the "Pax Ultramar" propaganda. They claim Gulliman is a "better" leader than even the Emperor. The other more "exotic" Primarchs? Filler material, recognizable more by their exaggeratedly glaring flaws than their not-recognized worth & contributions. Barely any significant roles at all, & next to zero credit or tribute, both within & without the setting.
The only reason I put this picture here, is because it fits nicely with the recent "Imperial Standard" posters & theme. I never cared about Jolly-Man, nor have I ever taken the Blue-Clad Wretches seriously.
Everything about Guilliman and his whole "resurfacing", coupled with all else occurring to the Imperium in the 8th Codex, and how ridiculously overrated Guilliman is drastically cheapens the lore, and nearly renders hollow whatever detail was written about the universe since the 3rd Edition. Every other Space Marine chapters were basically put on the side burner along with the other primarchs, and forgotten about, and it's quite disgusting. Not to mention that the legacy and the iconic image of the Astartes is being wiped away by these new Primaris Space Marines, which were introduced into the lore very poorly.
As you said, it's time for GW to put the Horus Heresy saga down, and write about something totally different. It's really been run into the ground, and plenty of pre-Heresy lore, or should I say, pre-Guilliman lore has been put to the side as fillers.
Matt Ward's wet dream intensifies! The most overrated chapter strikes again! Yay! By the way - still waiting for REAL 8th edition, not this GW trollfest!
I think that the 8-th edition could've been salvageable if they didn't skip so much out.
But to be honest this deviantart poster looks way better than anything that Games Workshop posted
Yeah, the poster looks stunnin'. And yeah, they could've made the story better. Show us some more details, and so on.
