So you can tell from the millions of other soldiers who this particular guy is?
Actually, trillions.
Imperial Guardsman: Solders who fights and survives against hordes of superior xenos, horribly deformed mutants and Heretics and then gets killed by their own commissar for not not saluting them in the middle of an enemy attack.
Guardsmen: Because power armor is for pussies!
They are real heroes of the Imperium. Space marines stands equal to the most enemies of man, but guardsmen not. They fight foes who are almost always biger, stronger and meaner.
