I'm speaking objectively, since I never knew about 40k until DoW came out on 2004, so I have no nostalgia to cloud my critique; but having read nearly all the 40k rulebooks and codexes I still say RT is the best edition of warhammer ever. I even like the pre-grimdark cheesy 80's art style. And I would totally be playing TT if the damn models weren't so expensive.
That's where conversions are great, many players use minis from other games like AT-43, West Wind and Pig Iron to create unique IG and other faction's armies.
Not to mention actual quality control, which GW is constantly getting rid of with their new zero-quality "Citadel Finecast" which are full of bubbles that destroy details.
Yes, basically you can build an army from scraps =) I've seen papercraft 40k tanks and walkers. Yes the prices are high but some hobbies like hunting and yachting are even more expensive. Video games are relatively expensive as well =)
Well with hunting you're buying licenses, tags, clothing, and a well made sophisticated piece of technology like a scoped firearm or modern compound bow. Yachting? Well that's a big-*** boat we're talking about. With 40k they're just little plastic toys. Now I got nothing against little plastic toys, but c'mon, they're little plastic toys!
My point is it just feels like a ripoff. And paper-craft and lego 40k just looks lame, lol sorry. But point taken, I'll look into jerry-rigging minis and such. That's why Rogue Trader is the best. You can use literally anything and the RT book probably has rules for it.
it is a rip-off but if you want little plastic men to go pew pew with your mates you have very little choice. that is why they can treat their customers like little bitches and not suffer a backlash.
GW needs a clear and threatening rival to get it thinking competitivly about prices and customer support
are you left handed? if so Id reconsider getting any of those right side ejecting bullpup's :/ Thats and the dam thing is pricy too. better off getting a cheap "but reliable" Russian surplus Mosin Nagant for your 1st firearm.
Orks on steroids =)
