I can recall a scene in the Horus Heresy books that described Ultramarines doing exactly that for training. They used their gladii, but those are really just shorter power swords.
Lucius (Emeperors Children) and Garviel (Luna Wolves at the time I think) dueled for like hours exactly like this. The only reason Loken won was because he sucker punched Lucius. It could have gone on for days I'm sure.
In the first few books Garviel is said to have trained for like 6 hours before getting bored/tired.
Garviel and Lucius only dueled twice from what I remember reading. The first time, Garviel won due to that punch but Lucius increased his skill between that and the second duel, beating Garviel in minutes if not seconds while dual-wielding swords.
Youre thinking of Sigismund and Sevatar, and it was a headbutt. They were dead even combatants, Sev headbutted him in frustration breaking the lock. And Sigismund laughed about it, Sev said he envied the ease of which Sigismund could laugh and socialise. And i believe it was 103-113 hours. Garvi defeated Lucius the first time with ease.
Is it the second or third book? Can't find it. I'll take your word though. Either way, I dont think Garviel would turn down a powersword duel if he was challenged.
to clarify: weapons used in duels are (usually) unpowered. even the World Eaters don't power up their sparring weapons unless they're dueling to the death.
if the power fields were active, the blood would boil off the blade and i would've added some lightning effects along the blade length too.
it tells something about the Space Marines and their equipment - if humans use dulled blades for training, Marines train with sharpened and fully combat-ready swords, just with the matter-evaporating energy fields turned off! and yes, very often in just tunics, or otherwise shirtless.
I love this piece. My only actual criticism is the lack of definition and size of their Traps and musculature of the neck, they look strange without it in proportion, might just be me though. But really like this piece, howd you get the socket nodes in place?
thanks, i'm still working on adjusting the muscle detail around the head attachment point. the socket nodes i modeled, and then i baked an ambient occlusion map for the body with them on to see where they were located, and then drew some additions to the body normal map in the right spots to make the nodes look like they're actually installed into/through the flesh.
sorry but did Garfield lose an arm in the books ? Wasn't it one of his battle brothers who did ?
I can't remember his name but I think he aswell fought against an emperors children named Soul Tarvids if I remember correctly.
Fighting with Power Swords wearing nothing but Tunics...Should I call that Space Manly or just plain Macho?

Still..Short Power Swords..too bad they didn't show it in the same manner as in the Ultarmarines movie xP.
