The Emperor will never lose his immortal status (see: Golden Throne won't cease to function, ever) because if he dies, most if not all of the Imperium goes down with him, and with the Imperium, Games Workshop's 40k-related revenue.
In other words: Plot armor.
I dunno, having seen what they're doing with End times, it might happen, as a secondary set of rules and a couple of books. I kinda want it, at least as books. Seing how they plan to end it all would be amazing.
Isn't the emperor a perpetual, and thus wouldn't it reason if you remove him from the golden throne and allow him to fully die he'll come back at full strength ready to spank the **** out of his sons?
Wow - this piece screams Grimdark!!
I can really feel the hopelessness. Nice one.
Kriegs, Dark Angels... Siege of Vraks?
Looks like it.
The Imperium will never die, the Emperor protects! Also epic artwork!

There are many theories about that sort of thing. From the Star child, to the Sensei.
