Imperial High Command have noticed that while the Imperial ground forces either surpass or equal Federation ground forces, the Federation's air support is far superior, especially counting in such ships as the Reliance.
Thus their Research Departments have come up with the Tie Obliterator. It has twin ion engines, allowing for great speeds, and it is very compact, making it very hard for enemy fighters and even AA to shoot it down, especially if flying at full speed.
How, due to this, its hull is rather light, but it makes up for that with a heavy ray shield generator, protecting it from most fighter fire.
It is equipped with two laser cannons and four missiles. The laser cannons allow it to perform strafing runs on enemy positions, though their main function is to shoot down enemy gunships, bombers or fighters. The missiles cannot lock on to enemy positions, and fire in a straight line, however they provide additional firepower when attacking larger ships or ground installations, and pack more of a punch than other guided missiles.
Due to all this equipment, the Tie Obliterator possesses no Hyperdrive, and must rely on troop transports to be deployed, either from the ground or from orbit. They also perform less admirably in space, losing out to dedicated space fighters, though they can still prove effective against bombers, if the fleet needs extra fighter support.
Made this, as the description suggests, to give the Empire a better chance in the air.
The Federation has the Reliance, so I thought a dedicated ground fighter would even things up.
Once this is GM approved, I shall add in more details. It'll officially be integrated into the Imperial Military after the Kinyen Crisis.
I also have plans to add two new units. The Federation has had the opportunity to look at our units and spot our weaknesses and ect. before creating their military, so I'm thinking us doing the same won't hurt xD.
