One of those modified T90's? I always wondered what the armor plates on the sides even do? Their armor, but would they stand agains a direct hit from any serious at gun?

So what's the use of the armor plates?
It is the modernized version of M-84A, which was based on T-72. It is the sister tank of T-90. If you would compare it:
T-90A: better armour
M-84AS: better maneuverability

I believe the armor plates on the side function the same way as spaced armor & could be useful for stopping AT HEAT projectiles such as from an RPG-7 & RPG-18 for examples.
Correct me if im wrong.
