First of, there are more than two parties. If you're disgruntled, vote for someone else. This is actually quite important to the democratic process. Secondly, there are differences.

That said, American politics always seem weird when viewed from over here. I sometimes get the feeling that it's all based on animosity between the parties rather than a legit discussion about policy.

technically yes, but actual electable parties? Any other party other than the Democrats and Republicans has a snowball's chance in hell of getting elected... Not saying they're good or bad, if i were American i would probably vote for one of them, but the American people aren't the brightest when it comes to voting... Just guide them in one direction and they'll follow.
