As for the topic, the main reason I don't support prostitution is because I fail to see anything good coming from it. Seriously, aside from it helps a man to ease his sexual needs (There are a number of other ways to do that) what good comes from it?
Its the best thing to be ever conceived by man from a law and order stand point, without it the sheer amount of rape crimes would drastically rise.
Or that is the worst case scenario I predict.
Depends, shall we look at Canada? They seem to have the best nation in the world, if they don't have prostitution and no crime then we seriously need to pay more attention!
I see absolutely no reason why someone shouldn't be allowed to use their bodily functions as they see fit, as long as it doesn't harm others. In much of Europe prostitution is not only legalized, but kept under control and regulated; there are standards that are upkept to hinder the spread of diseases.
Anyway, it'll occur whether or not it's legalized, and legalizing it will have positive effects. So why not legalize and control it? More importantly, let's not just legalize it, let's TAX IT! Solution to the debt crisis, right there.
as much as i would want to be against prostitution you guys do make good points, and this is true with a lot of stuff: "Anyway, it'll occur whether or not it's legalized, and legalizing it will have positive effects." so they should tax stupidity, (i don't consider prostitution as an intelligent act) instead of trying to ban it since banning something will make it go underground where the government will have to LOOSE money to effectively try controlling it, rather than the them gaining money and still having quite a level of control.
I don't personally think it's exactly intelligent either, just doesn't appeal to me and it's rather risky... Yet those risks could be decreased through government regulation! Huzzah!

But seriously i have no problem with it as long as its not forced prostitution and sex slavery (and yes that does exist all over the place)
if a women wants to sell her body, what give us the right to say no- it belongs to he right? banning prostitution is actaully oppression because it is taking a right to choose away from people- i know several femanists who agree with me on this as well (they used to be againist it)
as for the male side of it, its not a real big issue- if you want to have sex just go meet girls.
paying a ****** for sex is often rather silly these days when you can get the same thing for free if you just try alittle bit and not mention your starwars action figure collection (well i have heard that has work like once, but i dont reconmend it)
and with the way disease rates are now picking up a prostitute or your average girl is avout equal on the danger to dickrot scale so again no real problem
and with a prostitute there is no nagging, buying stuff, jealousy, craziness that is in a normal relationship.
personally its not my cup of tea, but hey if you into it why not.
O and one more bonus i forgot- prostitutes leave after.
Can't really comment. The woman is selling herself, the man is paying and the image raises a good point too. Pornography is legal and it's really the same (in a way) with the woman and man being paid to have sex for other people's pleasure.
Of course prostitution raises problems itself such as some of these women ending up being raped and others being forced into these circles to have forced sex with people.
I agree with you completely ecclesia- there is a difference between prostitution and sexual slavery and that difference is critical.
Sexual slavery and rape are wrong on all levels and should never ever be allowed
Obviously prostitution is already illegal. But, In my honest opinion, pornography should be banned and all sites made illegal.

Now, let's put aside your narrow and highly specific view of what the bible teaches: does it really affect you or have any (actual) notable influence on people? No, it does not and I can tell you that from experience. Forcing your values on people in such an authoritarian fashion is probably going to have the opposite effect of what your desiring. Remember how prohibition worked out? Oh wait, it didn't.

I do agree with Yuri's view though that pornography is immoral. This is also the view of most Christians. Not only does it display women as pieces of meat but it also becomes an unhealthy addiction to some.
I doubt it'll ever be banned though simply because it's all between consenting adults most of the time.

Pornography "freedom of speech"? HA! Don't make me laugh. I'm against the immoral exploitation of men and women for profit and exploitation of disgusting habits. If you want to see anyone against freedom of speech, then look at xxT65xx's comment telling me that merely voicing an opinion is "authoritarian" and "forcing my values on people" while its okay for everyone else to voice an opinion. I know, how dare I have an opinion about something. I should be a mindless drone and slave to society like certain other people here.
