I've seen a lot of arguments proposing that the entire political system- Democrats, Republicans, etc. is a sham, and that in fact they're all one big elite dedicated to fooling the populace and controlling them.
Personally I've always been rather conflicted on it. While I tend to lean towards the government just having too many conflicting opinions and thus the parties are indeed opposing one another, one always has to wonder: Was nobody really smart enough to propose a sort of monopolistic trust were created in government? It's happened in the private sector; what stops the government from doing so?
there's always the possibility that the government isn't what it seems like, take the fact that the US government doesn't own their own money and instead have to borrow it from the privately owned FED. that means that they then have to pay the money back (with interest) but the only people that make money is the Federal Bank Reserve. so just by having financial control over the government the owners of the bank can theoretically control the government making it appear as if the two sides are completely opposite when in reality an individuals vote doesn't matter. which might explain why some people simply don't want to vote if they think that they government works that way. also it often happens that those that do want to vote have to chose the lesser of the two evils... just food for though:D
We're mammals with above average critical thinking abilities, the capacity to create tools, structures and form complex hypothesis and theories; also armed with the anatomy to put them well to use.
So no there is no secret arch overlord, politicians are ambitious and self-interested in most cases. More so today than in any other time in history as to my knowledge, likely because they can afford to be full of **** more than ever as well due to drastically increased living standards.
When it comes to corporations, they are merely exploiting an opportunity they haven't had since the flood of immigrants that came to the US about a century ago. They're exploiting it very successfully and very sadly so, I might add.
