Never Mind the Polygons is a lively panel and game show discussion of today’s game development issues, generally fuelled by alcohol and a large dose of bile.

Topical, informative, intelligent, arrogant, knowledgeable but most importantly great fun, Polygons uses alcohol and a lively quiz show format to get game developers together and talking about current issues facing the industry.

Organised by games consultancy and support agency Pixel-Lab, Polygons is held in Derby, UK on a quarterly basis. It is open to all game developers and game development students.

Chaired by Toby Barnes, it features regular team captains Dan Marchant (EM Media, The Obscure Consultancy) and Iain Simons (GameCity) along with two new guests each time.

Previous panellists have included:

Rob Yescombe (Free Radical Design)
Adam Russel (Eurocom)
Paul Smith (Strawdog Studios)
Matt Sansam (Covert Media, ex-Rebellion Derby)
Hugh Binns (Eurocom)
Alan O'Dea (Monumental Games)
Nick Burton (Rare)

There are a some important announcements about Polygons #11. First, it will be changing format, and second, it won't be recorded. Third, the University of Derby will be hosting an event earlier in the day.

Instead of the normal quiz, we'll be having a discussion on a single game, with some of the developers on hand to show work and field questions. Join the panel on May the 8th. Doors at 6 p.m., panel to start at 7:30 p.m.

Before that, from 5 until 7, the University of Derby will be opening their doors to game developers, with an exhibition of student work and tours of their facilities. You can download a flyer for that here .

Once again, Polygons will be in the SUB bar, at the University of Derby Kedleston Road Campus. Here's a google map , map of the campus , directions to it, and a floorplan . If you're driving, please park in the visitors car park. To get to the bar, just head into the atrium and past the shops.

Please note, the bar will be closed to normal student admissions - students wanting to attend should see John Sear for a wristband. Photos from the last Polygons we did there can be found here.

If you're not driving, the Unibus 6 service runs right to the university from the train station. We'll make sure to have some cab numbers handy on the night should you need them too.

This event is made possible by our sponsors Rare , Bluegfx, Autodesk , and CIN.

There will be more Polygons t-shirts in future. For now though, the last few of the first batch are reduced to $25 USD with shipping to anywhere.

As well as this mailing list, you can keep up with Polygons on the Facebook group and the website.
