Post tutorial Report RSS How to add stages to WinMugen

A quick tutorial in how to add stages to Mugen, and assign them to characters... the easy way.

Posted by on - Basic Mapping/Technical

Download the stage and follow the steps.

1 - Check if you have both stage's .def and .sff files.

2 - Place both files in your stages folder

3 - Ensure that both files names are exactly the same.

4 - Copy the stage's name and open your data folder, following by select.def file

5A - To add the stage to a specific character, do the following:

[Characters]

kfm, stages/Mountainside_Temple.def

5B - To add a stage for general use do the following:

[ExtraStages];

Put extra stages here.
They will be available in VS and Watch modes.

;For example, you can insert "stages/mybg.def".

stages/Training_Room.def

Bare in mind that you must always type .def after every stage.
Also check out my other tutorials in how to set characters order of appearance.

6 - Save everything and it's done.

Note that you don't have to add the stage twice, if you assign it to a character you don't have to add it to the stages section. You only have to add a stage into the stages section if you don't assign it to a character and want it to be used randomly.

What happens if we have a folder of a stage and we can't put the contents in the stages folder. Because the contents will mess up other stages.

I tried Stages/*Folder*/"Stagename" and *Folder*/"Stagename" but it did not work.

Do it like this:
Stages\Foldername\Stagename.def
That's all you need to do.

Is it possible to add multiple stages to the same character?

Yes, just add the same character twice in the select.def with different stages.

Where exactly do I put the formula? Beside the character adding one like this:

kfm/stages/kfm.def kfm/stages/Mountainside_Temple.kfm

Or below it like this:

kfm/stages/kfm.def
kfm/stages/Mountainside_Temple.kfm

It doesn't work at all, and my biggest concern is that I can't add more than one character. Help?
