The problem with multiplayer mods is the lack of players; the solution is to play them. That's where the Modding Social Club (MSC) at ModDB comes in. Want to get social? Pop into our bi-weekly event-- just join a server of our target game with people in it.

Report article RSS Feed Let's Play: Eternal Silence

Join the ModDB staff for some good times in the latest release of Eternal Silence.

Posted by stenchy on Feb 6th, 2009

Many mods suffer from lack of a constant playerbase, regardless of their overall quality. People jump in, don't see anyone online and then never come back. The cycles repeats and as a result many mods struggle to maintain populated servers. Not necessarily because there isn't anyone who wants to play, but because they're never on at the same time. The Modding Social Club aims to alleviate some of the growing pains mods have and help players enjoy some of the under-appreciated mods by having everyone hop on at the same time to play. For all who decide to participate, it means packed servers and good times with fellow ModDB members.

The mod chosen for our first weekend session is Eternal Silence! Even though it's celebrating a recent Steamworks release, this mod deserves a healthy playerbase. Let's show our support, fill their servers and own some noobs! ModDB staff will be playing throughout the weekend. Add us to your Steamfriends if you want to join us directly. (Ryan and Dave) Most importantly, have fun out there!

If you want to keep on top of all updates for future play sessions—we'll be doing a different game/mod every weekend—join/watch this group or join the ModDB Steam group.

Wooo! God I love this mod, it's by far and away one of the best out there. Been playing all evening, and it's such a rush cutting engines on a pursuing fighter, spinning around on a penny and seeing that moment of "wtf? how did he do that?!!" as you plow into them with dual cannons roaring. Love the new game modes too, adds some great variety to the server rotation.

But the best bit is how friendly everyone's being, there's no rude players (that I've seen), everyone is decent and helpful and the devs are great fun to play against. Can't wait to join you guys on the servers, especially if I get to kill Dave :D

as long as you dumb it down to two teams with various bullet shooting firearms (and nothing else), the constant large player base will come

it's the sad truth though :(

So, is this downloadable on steam, or from their website? I thought it was out by now, but I didn't see it on steam.

You have to browse to the Store Page to get it: Store.steampowered.com

Just clicky, "Play Game" to start downloading.

Sadly, due to a few whingy types who don't like free games "cluttering up" their games list, Valve withdrew all the Source Mods from peoples Uninstalled foldout tab, so now the Source mods can only be found in the Mods section of the store.

Aside from the obvious bugs (especially the game not saving my settup after quitting. Having to reconfigure every time,) ES is still plenty of fun and with all the new content it's starting to look like it can only keep improving. Can't wait to see the kinks get hammered out, though.

The new gamemode can get repetitive because it's map indepedant. Not matter the map it's the same gameplay.

Hello..... (echos)

Man I really thought this group was a fantastic idea and a great way to get some people playing some of the classic MODS. Even if it was only for a night, it would be great to keep this group going and actually have some new events to get people playing again. Let me know if I can help in any way :)
