I still find it impressive the ancients lost with such overpowered weapons. Truly an achievement, it would be like dogfighting the Kittyhawk in your F22 and losing.

mckay explained it in the first episode of stargate atlantis lol, the ancients could win nearly every single battle, but were vastly outnmumbered and the ancients didnt know how they were so many so fast *spoiler*(later in SG:A you find out the wraith used ZPM's)

I never truly bought that explanation. And I've seen every episode of both SG1 and SGA.

makes sense to me, imagine it like, you have a modern pistol, facing against 100 samurai, you can shoot them and kill alot, but sooner or later the shear numbers will overwelm you with your fancy pistol.

Think of it this way, the Ancients had to construct their ships, the Wraith grew their ships.
The Wraith could grow soo many damn ships the Ancients couldn't compete in turn the Ancients couldn't actually kill off the wraith. "Wraith are never-ending" - Todd the Wraith
