I am posting this because I want a question answered...
What is so damn great about the XM8. All I ever hear is people saying it is so great and that it is so sexy.
1. Its not all that great...
2. The design to me is not that appealing, for fuck, its made of plastic
answer to your 2nd question first about the plastic, it is plastic because that way it is lighter to the soldier. it is a great design because it fulfills multiple roles (assault rifle, carbine, Close Quarter Combat with the micro version, Machine gun and a assault sniper rifle) and the gun by DEFAULT comes with a Reflex (also known as the red-dot sights) sight for accuracy (3.5X red-dot scope for the sniper rifle version)
Ok I see where the XM8 can be a good weapon, but my question now, what the hell is with what appears to be a gigantic carrying handle... there is just no real reason for it to be there besides elevating the reflex sight.
this way it is easier for the soldier to carry as there is more gripping points, this is also why the G36 and the M16 have that but the M16 is too small and narrow (personal opinion)
yep not everyone has a long arm length and it is basically personal preference :)
For me it will always be the same old awesome G36 with just a new body, can't see any diference than that besides the multiple roles, but that can be done with G36 to.
well, that is kinda because the M8 is built off the G36 and built by the same company
Why was this gun not good enough to replace the M16/M4?
it is still being field tested that is why it is still called the XM8 not the M8

Actually I believe it was canceled a few years ago due to congress cutting budget and all.
But I don't really remember of the top of my head.
it was, but in april last year it was continued so it is not canceled
