he s just running to some placed MG which will kill him and all other soldiers with him. this kind of war was really why infantry is even nowdays considred cannon fodder
yeah, sadly playmsbk is right. Those men seen on this photo probably got killed during the charge. (on the other hand the pictures was often not taken during the heat of battle but stylized by the photograph, because otherwhise it would be to blurry)
