To be honest, a consequentialist point of view is one that only the morally compromised and most ruthless of people ever use to achieve their desired results. Only the morally bankrupt use it, or it could be argued sociopathic. Because they do not care what pain or agony they cause those who stand between them and their results. All of it is merely a means to and end. Between them and their desires.
So really when you say, "twisted". You're not really adding anything to the view than it already is, elffriend. Sociopathy is a form of utilitarian consequentialist ethics in itself.
Given the context you used this I'm not questioning really if you know or not.
But rather just wish to clarify for everyone what makes the view what it is.
The word, "consequintialist" needs no adjective to tell what it's like, it's basically every evil word one could think of combined into one. All in the name of, "means to an end".
That's not what I meant. With consequentialism your ultimate goal is "good" but in this case the ultimate goal wasn't good since the Jedi were in charge of maintaining peace. As such I called it twisted since the end goal wasn't really for the greatest overall good.
I never expected such a length and almost offensive response to a comment where I was semi jokingly trying to prove Vader was "good" by using a moral theory which would have made it easiest to do that. I guess we could also argue that his "diety" now is the dark side of the force and it commands him to kill those children so he's technically just obeying a diety but that wouldn't have held up that well in star wars lore. Also that would have basically ended up being a "bad faith" argument, just like following Sidious orders would be categorized as. Which I guess if Vader still had some Anakin left in him he would have rather certainly been using to justify the murder and destruction he caused.
Anyway I hope that cleared it up and sorry for any typos. Phones make double checking that names are spelt correctly a massive pain and autocorret just makes it worse.
Edit. Realize I should probably elaborate on consequentialism since you make it out to be far worse than it actually is. It's basically doing the maximum amount of good. If the end outweighs the means then the means are justified. If the means do not outweigh the end then they are not justified. So killing 5 people to save 1 is not good but killing 1 to save 5 is. At least that's how I understand it.
