IMO, the best way to leave a legacy is on the minds of others.
Why make a legacy on material gain built on the ruins of others' dreams and be remembered as a selfish asshat, while being a cool guy and doing something that'll earn you a place in the fond memories of others is also an option?
Buildings and material stuff can always be torn down, but you can't delete the memories you leave on others.
