buddies? the French and the "Germans" (which is an ambiguous term that bugs me seeing that there is no united Germany until 1871) were at each others throats since the 7 years war.
France sided with Austria during the seven years war and beat up on Prussia (which was the most powerful of the Germanic states at that time)until the battle of Rossbach where Frederich Der Grosse pulled an outstanding victory over the franco-austian forces encroaching on Prussian land.
Then in the early 19th century, Napoleon nearly destroyed Prussia and Prussia didn't really bounce back until shortly before Waterloo in 1815.
Then in 1870, France under Napoleon III (Napoleon's nephew) suffers several humiliating defeats in the Franco-Prussian war, after witch Napoleon III is exiled to england. Then, to further **** on the French, King Frederich Willhelm of Prussia had himself crowned Kaiser Frederich Willhelm I, Emperor of the newly united Germany IN VERSAILLES! As you can imagine the French were immensely upset about that.
And I could go into WWI and WWII but I think ive made my point. For nearly 2 and a half centuries the French and the "Germans" were not buddies as you had exclaimed.
They just can't make jokes about French without putting the ONE cliché in it, can they? XD
Well what are the French gonna do? Invade the rest of us with their white flag equipped armies?
If I ever go to France again I'll have to remember to ask them where their white flag factory is.
Well, clichés are funny when they are harmless, and this one trully is.
This actually gave me feels for France... I have no idea why.
But France is better buddies with Germany than UK... And Spain is far from broke and being poor...

I think he means now at this moment where all the powerful European nations are now in the EU.
Exactly, I'm talking about the 21st century, lol.
