Alaska? 'Merican? If I remember correctly weren't Alaska only "rented" for some years? Before 'Merica annexated it from Russia?
If I remember correctly we bought it for really cheap because Russia didn't know about all the oil..
one of my high school history books talked about Russia not wanting to build telegraph lines having something to do with it as well. but it's US high school history involving Russia, so take it with a lot of salt.
