The discovery of oil in Alaska is true along with a number of other resources like zinc, gold, copper, and natural gas when we purchased it. The Russian Empire had a fur and seal trade in Alaska but it was drying up, they were in debt after an economic reform and so couldn't pay back their landowners, and they would have a hard time defending what was thought to be a "useless stretch of land" from Briton (this was after the Crimean War.) They wanted to sell it and hoped for a bidding war between America and Briton but the British weren't interested but us "rowdy, gun-toting, *******" Americans were. So we bought at and thought we were ripped off. Until we struck gold. Then discovered the other resources that're mentioned above. At the end of the day, our purchase was a steal.
Is there any truth in this?

Klondike was a very famous gold loade in Alaska, and was the very location that started the Second Gold Fever.
Should have filled with gold instead of oil.
