I've been whining about this for years now. History was my favorite channel of all times, even more favorite then Sci-Fi(Today Syfy). Discovery is not much better either, damn reality shows are taking over...
Since I'm in Australia without Foxtel, I don't have this problem. Documentaries that are shown on free TV are high quality and cover whatever subject they cover very well.
Just a quick question, have you ever seen a documentary on the Maya or Aztec civilisations? I'm really curious about them.
I miss the times those channels were good, I stopped watching Discovery and Animal Planet back in 2007, then I started watching History Channel. It lasted a little longer, but then it started to only broadcast reality shows and once in a while Ancient Aliens.
Some of its reality shows weren't that bad, like Pawn Stars, they still had some history in them, but these things, I've never (and will never) watched them.
(I'm Brazilian, so I'm obviously talking about the programs that we have in our History Channel, it might be different to you, I don't know.)
same here, used to get loads of military stuff on the military channel (now h2) but all you get now is Americans doing mundane stuff with cut-out commentaries
And this is why I prefer playing Assassin's Creed to watching the "history" channel. Heck even Mass Effect provides better educational content than anything on tv.
History in the making they tell you...
... The history of the decline of the History Channel of course!
And Western Civilization!

I know right, Discovery (mostly) sucks *** nowadays.

Yeah, he was also the guy from Full Metal Jacket which made it just moar awesome D:
Note: sorry if my English sucks today just woke up from a 3 hour sleep :)
History Channel was good, but now there is no difference between watching History and Discovery Channel.
This image got me, lol
Don't forget Ice Road Truckers, a show that Russians watch as comedy.
