It WAS delayed at least once (never followed NMS news very closely), so it had likely reached a point where the development cost was going to become so high that Sony wouldn't be able to profit. Even if Sony didn't release it yet, I doubt they'd want to continue to publish the game. So Hello Games wouldn't be able to fund it anymore, which means they'd have to release it in that state anyway.
There was no winning, NMS was simply too ambitious of an idea.
NMS is exactly that game I expected it to be, and the game I told my friends it would be (They choose to believe the hype rather than me. I have mocking rights for eternity).
The extreme hype turned the game into an ambitious idea. I think this game is more or less the game they wanted to make. They just sucked at selling the actual game they were making and allowed the hype train to just roll on til release.
I picked up on this when they first started showing off gameplay. I still can't fathom why so many others didn't.
Play what?
"no man's sky" (hope i named it right)
and yes my PC wont do it...
This is an good example, not to release a game, before its ready, no matter what pressure is put on the developer. (Game-publisher or ill minded fans)

I expected nothing and was still let down.
