As someone who is by far not skilled nor patient enough to get anywhere in Dark Souls, my solution is simple: I just don't play Dark Souls.
Why would any "casual" without a very strong inner masochist try Dark Souls to begin with? It's a game that WILL break your legs and kick you when you're down, that's a granted.
Then again, my persistent mistake is forgetting most people are dumb and can't into logic and/or common sense.

The game is already easy enough that it can be finished in 5 hours, just stop playing it if you can't get good enough.
