USSR never really 'lost', they just disbanded... Or...
Actually, yes USA won. USSR rage quitted.
They were about to win. Then they squandered their extra wealth to military, and went to get this new military smashed in the Afghanistan war.
well tbh imo i don't call the cold war as a real war so yeah.. no loosers there people just stopped having tensions between each other.
Nah, they were more or less stuck in a siege mentality and focused on the military than economics and living standards in the mid to later years. Their military doctrine also put more emphesis around armor and artillery which ment that their general infantry were not as well trained as the "western" infantry, except for the elite VDV regiments, Guard regiments and Spetsnaz battalions. And since they were fighting in the mountains of Afghanistan the Red Army's main strength was effectivly nullified.
They didn't get smashed. They were fighting the same impossible war 'Murica is fighting now. Only, the resistance was being supplied by high grade Western weapons, MANPADS and the like.
What's funny is we actually haven't seen the end result of the Cold War yet. America's decisions during that key period have created the empire that they are now, an empire that has become the very thing they claimed they set out to prevent.
personally, I see it as both sides winning because world war3 never started
... yet.
Perhaps because USA never came...
The Soviet Union collapsed from the inside because once the new Russian president allowed free speech, everyone was allowed to reveal how they hated the dictatorship and they rage quitted from the Soviet Union.
That summed it up.
