Actually, a lot of Tolkien's work is very reminiscent of the Bible. From Manwe being the head Valar (Emmanuel in the Bible was a foreshadowing of the Messiah, who did rule over angels upon ascention), to the Haradrim being outcasts (like Ismael was, even today the arabs identify themselves as "ismaelites").
