If Stalker has taught me anything, it's that you should only really cary 2-3 weapons max. Less weight = more speed and less stamina consumption, which in turn means it's easier to get to cover when you need to. Always works, that is until you get blown up by grenades...
It's true for vanilla game but I never cared how many weapons (or items) I'm carrying in MISERY, because stamina is working a little bit different than original game. Yep, I don't take all these weapons in a fight, but after then I can pick and carry all weapons during a day and even make missions and go into another firefight (it's much easier when playing as an Assaulter). But of course, carrying two or three weapon is still most logical act in STALKER, either in original or in MISERY.
Oh I know that feeling, it's hard to let go of a Laser Gatling and a Fat Man.

With the introduction of the survival mode you could say I dropped this behaviour though.
