Maybe French Resistance fighters? Though the resistance were prone to infighting due to no overall leader, each cell had it's own warlord of sorts. Part of the reason why the Allies stopped dropping weapons to the resistance, they just used them to kill eachother rather than kill Germans.
What's wrong with just playing a male? I play female characters every so often (ie Tomb Raider, Transitor, Mass Effect, etc) so what's wrong with a girl playing a male character every so often?

The Red Army utilized women as snipers if I remember correctly. So not entirely impossible. That being said, it would be cool to play as Vasilie Zeitsev like we got to in COD2

Well, I don't see why not? Also please add cat ears and bit tits in there as well while they're at it. XD
TBF he did say multiplayer only not the story mission.
That being said, the women should be an optional choice for Soviet only (Women's did serve as regulars in the Red Army).
