Actually it does work, can personally confirm. Then again, the reason I do it isn't to wake up early, but for better sleep time efficiency.
Less time sleeping per day = more time awake = more time actually doing something.
in my opinion based on personal experience,most important thing are sleep quality,not how long you sleep,even if you manage to stay awake 24 hour,a small half hour sleep can be a refreshning one in contrast you sleep early in order to getup early it ended up having a long sleep but your body have been to relaxed to even wake up earlier
