this is exactly why i thin Mace was one of the worst star wars characters to date, and the fact that he ended up screwing everything that he got involved with.
oh and his also a psycho, when Ahsoka got guard duty in the jedi temple in one of the clone wars episodes, she asked how long her guard duty would be and Mace was just like, "longer now that you asked" basically Mace is a great example of a dark jedi.
So that's what happened, "save Padme" was just an elaborate ruse :P
