I started using source forge to keep updates of the mod on a regular basis just either to back up materials online or to let anyone that wanted to try out what i changed etc. Source allows you to download any material that you upload almost at once when the upload is completed so there is basically no wait period.

Also in addition i created 2 elite ships for the HW 2 campaign but you need to download my persist 3 file and replace yours with mine. You will find your persist 3 in your bin/profiles/profile of your choice/Ascension. YOu need to have played up to mission 3 to do this.

I'm starting to test SVN Tortoise and from what I could see it is specially designed for cases like HWU.
You can choose what to upload and the followers or project members can choose what to download. HWU is around 1Gb or more, so you wouldn't have to compile and upload a monster every time you edit a bunch of files.
I'm using ASSEMBLA to host the files since it is associated with Tortoise. Check out with real programmers, they will have a more technical advise on this matter.
2.5 GB uncompiled less than 800 mb compiled, and source forge uploads VERY fast.
